INCA TOPS: LEADERS IN SOLAR SUSTAINABILITY
At Inca Tops, we understand that sustainability is not just a corporate responsibility, but also a key strategy for long-term success. Embedded in the core of our business development, we have integrated renewable energies into our operation, positioning ourselves as an entity committed to ecology and social responsibility, without compromising our competitiveness and market presence.
Since 2011, we began an eco-innovative journey with the construction of our ecological plant in Zamácola. This facility, initially dedicated to the sorting, washing, and combing of alpaca fiber, was an essential step. However, it was in 2013 when our sustainable vision took a quantum leap with the implementation of an ambitious project: harnessing solar energy to boost our production of alpaca tops, yarns, and special blends.
The raw material we obtain from the Peruvian Andes, rich in alpaca fiber, requires a meticulous cleaning process to remove natural impurities such as plant residues and soil. Before our ecological transformation, we depended on fossil fuels to heat the water essential for this process. However, with a visionary investment of $700,000, we chose a greener path, installing solar panels that allow us to produce coils and tops using the clean and abundant energy of the sun.
Today, we are proud to share that we own 1,200 solar panels, covering 2,400 square meters, dedicated to harvesting solar energy. This green transition has had a significant environmental impact: between 2014 and 2018, we reduced our emissions by 2,576 tons of CO2, equivalent to the benefit of 1,227 hectares of forest in one year.
Sustainability is a race with no finish line. At Inca Tops, we celebrate this achievement, but we also understand it is a stepping-stone in our ongoing journey. We remain committed to exploring and adopting eco-friendly solutions, reaffirming our position as leaders in the sustainable textile industry, while strengthening responsible ties with our communities. It is our promise to bring the legacy of the Peruvian alpaca to the world with ethics, innovation, and sustainability.
