THE NEW TECHNICAL STANDARD FOR SHEARING IN PERU BASED ON INCA SHEARING

THE NEW SHEARING TECHNICAL STANDARD OF PERU BASED ON INCA SHEARING

Since the year 2000, Inca Tops, through the prestigious genetic improvement center Pacomarca, has spearheaded innovations in the alpaca industry. Our goal has been clear: to improve the quality and yield of alpaca fiber. Through meticulous experiments, we developed the "Inca Shearing" method. This technique not only improves the acquisition of fine qualities, such as Royal and Baby Alpaca, but also reduces stress on the animals, especially in pregnant females sheared during their last third of gestation. The results were clear: a significant reduction in abortions and accidents during shearing.

Motivated by the method's effectiveness, we promoted "Inca Shearing" among alpaca producers visiting the Pacomarca farm. Additionally, we established incentives for those who adopted this technique and subsequently sold their fiber to Inca Tops.

Over time, we have witnessed exponential growth in the production of fine alpaca fiber. Andean producers, by adopting our techniques, now receive differentiated prices based on the quality of their fleeces. Recognition came when the Peruvian government adopted the "Inca Shearing" system, making it the "National Shearing Technical Standard". This national endorsement reinforces our mission to reach more alpaca producers.

Inca Tops, along with Pacomarca, has been a key player in this process, hosting meetings and collaborating with the Ministry of Agriculture of Peru.

We promote "Inca Shearing" through courses, seminars, and exhibitions in high Andean regions. We are committed to further improving the quality of alpaca fiber, thanks to the innovation and genetic advancements driven at Inca Tops' model farm.
